ESTHER Inspiration Day March 21st 2019
The Chairman of Sevenoaks District Council Mrs Patricia Bosley opened the event with an inspirational speech in line with our ESTHER philosophy, a brilliant confirmation that the implementation of ESTHER is warmly welcomed into Sevenoaks.
This was followed by a session led by Dr Robert Stewart and Anna Carlbom titled ‘ESTHER Philosophy in Theory’ which included input from our international partners (Sweden & Singapore) and a brilliant speech from Dr Sarah MacDermott (Clinical Chair of DGS CCG).
We then heard about the ‘ESTHER Philosophy in Practice’ with powerful speeches from Anna Willson (Local Care Commissioning Programme Manager DGS), Ann Taylor (Chief Executive- Hilton Nursing Partners) and Cathy Bellman (Kent and Medway STP Local Care Lead) giving us personal examples of how an ESTHER approach and way of thinking can make a difference to our service users.
“I am going to make sure I ask what matters to you not what is the matter with you”
The afternoon workshops provided a great opportunity for discussion on “What matters to ESTHER!” and how the philosophy works in different contexts and for different organisations.
Attendees were given the opportunity to experience an ESTHER café, run by Faye Hames and Margaret Mogentale who have both supported ESTHER since it was first introduced and are ESTHER coaches from the first cohort. We hope that this will encourage organisations to see the benefits and run their own ESTHER cafe's in 2019; we will of course be available to support with this.
Other workshops included; ESTHER in other areas of health and social care, ESTHER in frailty, an update from ESTHER Sweden and a Creative Coaching session run by Ladder to The Moon.
“A well-run day in a hospitable environment”
We also trained 30 new ESTHER ambassadors at the event, bringing the total number of ambassadors across Kent and Medway to 1000. We received some very positive feedback from the ambassador training session and it was great to see so many people getting on board with the ESTHER philosophy.
“I Enjoyed the training and it has certainly opened my eyes to person centred care”
